About this site

Site Purpose: This is a site with how-to’s and tips for managing and maintaining a Windows based K-5 computer lab. The purpose of the site is to document the solutions to common desktop and server issues encountered in the computer lab. Whenever practical, the tools and methods will incorporate free and low cost solutions. Additionally, essential or especially useful software will be recommended.

Brief Background: I am a 4th year (as of 2008) computer teacher and technology coordinator at a California K-5 school with over 800 students using the lab per week. In 2006 the lab was updated with 36 Dell computers with XP pro and a windows 2003 server. The server is a domain controller, file server, print server and runs a simple LAMP intranet web server. Our networking infrastructure was already in place using 100mb ethernet to the desktops and server. We utilize several wireless access points for staff who use laptops in areas with no wired connectivity.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Lan / Wan networking, and I am a Microsoft Certified Professional, and Comptia A+, Network + certified and Apple Certified.
